David Hoffman for US Senate - My Endorsement

The text of the letter I sent to the Hoffman for Illinois Campaign this morning:

To Whom It May Concern:

I believe it is important for the young voters of McHenry County to be informed and knowledgeable of all local and statewide candidates. As you are well aware, many young voters were inspired during the 2008 Presidential Election to become more involved in politics, but whether or not this momentum will extend to the 2010 Elections remains to be seen – particularly as it relates to Illinois’ US Senate Race.

It is with this in mind that I feel it necessary to declare my personal support for, and endorsement of, David Hoffman for US Senate.

Mr. Hoffman represents a fresh change to Illinois’ politics that young voters can rally behind. He understands the importance of education, particularly as it applies to local school districts. He also believes in many of the social progressive values that young voters hold on to dearly, such as a woman’s right to choose and equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation. Most importantly, though, Mr. Hoffman is a leader that will fight back against the corruption in Washington that has led many young voters to not want to participate in politics to begin with.

In November of 2009, I was able to watch Mr. Hoffman discuss his views with fellow Senate Candidates at a debate organized by the Northern Illinois Coordinated Campaign Committee, and I was extremely impressed with both Mr. Hoffman’s knowledge of the issues we face and the authenticity of his opinions. Mr. Hoffman is not a man following provided talking points – he clearly has a point of view and is excellent in explaining why what he believes is right.

In sum, I believe it is important that young voters get involved in the 2010 Illinois US Senate race, and they need to know that the February Democratic Primaries offer a real choice. Young voters need to know the importance of voting not just by name recognition, but for the candidate they feel best represents their views. I am confident that David Hoffman is the best candidate, and I hope to convince other young voters of this as well.
